Does It Get Slippery When Wet?

That was my question for Simon Blenski, an employee of the Minneapolis Public Works Department, about four newly painted green crosswalks and bike lanes.

Minneapolis is asking pedestrians, cyclists, and motorist for comments on newly painted crosswalks and bike lanes.

The city is asking for feedback and coverage has been picked up in the Southwest Journal  and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Citizens are encouraged to give feedback on new markings in the following four areas:

  Oak Grove St at Hennepin Ave S (green crosswalk)


• 
  7^th St N at Lyndale Ave N (green bike lane)


• 
  15^th Ave SE at 4^th St SE (green bike lane)


• 
  Broadway St NE at 5^th St NE (bike traffic signal)

I asked Simon what they are looking to hear:

"We want to know if people feel safe traveling through the intersection, if the new treatment seems to help or mitigate previous concerns, and/or if there is any confusion about the new treatment.

We welcome comments from all road users – motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists."

By the way, his answer to the slickness question:

"We've heard a few folks mention the same thing, and we conducted intercept surveys of bicyclists and pedestrians earlier this summer and specifically asked them about the slickness of the paint. We haven’t gone through the results yet, but we will certainly use them in our evaluation."
