Now Hiring: Community Organizer for Open Streets

The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition seeks a part-time Community Organizer to support efforts on Open Streets Minneapolis. The position is for an average of about 25 hours per week (negotiable). You are strongly encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible and no later than May 12, 2016.

Responsibilities of the Community Organizer include:

  • lead outreach and community engagement for Open Streets Minneapolis events;

  • support long-term relationship and movement building with partners;

  • help create and support the vision for Open Streets Minneapolis into the future;

  • support other Coalition activities as directed;

  • provide a consistently positive passion for bicycling and the events work; and

  • perform administrative, clerical, and other duties as directed.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least one year experience in organizing, community outreach, community events, or related;

  • Ability to network, build trust, and build working relationships with diverse groups;

  • Great people skills, positive energy, and an ability to have fun with work;

  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow through with tasks while managing multiple projects;

  • Proficient computer skills including social networking sites and word processing;

  • A strong desire to work on community events in Minneapolis; and

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends;

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Minneapolis and connections to organizations and communities in Minneapolis;

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;

  • Proficiency in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong;

  • Experience working as part of team for at least one large-scale community event;

  • Experience working with volunteers;

  • Strong interest in Open Streets and making Minneapolis more bicycle friendly for everyone; and

  • Skilled with Google Apps.

 

Additional Details

The Community Organizer will work under the supervision of the Executive Director collaborating closely with a great Open Streets team.

Work hours will include meetings and events outside of the office, primarily at locations in Minneapolis, and will include evenings and weekends. Position involves lifting equipment up to 35 pounds and requires the ability to operate a bicycle.

 

Salary and Benefits

The wage range is $15 - $20 per hour, depending on experience and skills. The position is for an average of about 25 hours per week (exact amount is negotiable). Position includes partial benefits, including paid time off and holidays.
