Protected Bikeway Coming to 3rd Ave!

Last week the City Council unanimously approved a protected bikeway for 3rd Ave in downtown Minneapolis, scheduled to be built this year! We are excited about this critical connection and thank Mayor Hodges for bringing this forward and the entire Council for supporting. And we thank everyone in the community who has built support for a protected bikeway network.

While we were not successful in getting the state's first planter protected bike lane with the three lane option (instead of four lanes) on the southern part of the street, the protected bikeway was never up for debate. This shows how much impact community has had in speaking out for safer routes on our streets in just the last few years. We thank the Council Members who spoke up in favor of the three lane option, as well as the pedestrian advocates who pushed hard for the safer option.

Now's the time for Hennepin Avenue--come to Public Meeting Monday

The City of Minneapolis is redoing Hennepin Avenue through downtown in 2020 and is deciding now what Hennepin will look like. We need your voice at a public meeting:

We are excited that the City's initial draft concept plan for Hennepin includes protected bike lanes! We are committed to ensuring that the final concept plan and detailed designs to come guarantee an improved walking experience on Hennepin as well. The current plan is a good starting point for that, but we hope for more. Please come to Monday's meeting and offer your support for both protected bike lanes and an improved walking environment!

University Students Push for Bikeways

The UMN Bikeways group has been working on a Photo Campaign to raise awareness about a protected bikeway on University Ave SE that would run from 1st ave to Oak St. Throughout the month of April, concurrent with 30 Days of Biking, there have been four pit stops encouraging people to stop, grab a free bike check-over from Varsity Bikes and take an optional picture to show their support for the campaign. The campaign will culminate in a Group Ride next Friday, April 30th at 12:30PM at Bohemian Flats, roll out at 1pm. Email Emily for more information on the campaign and the ride!
