Bike lanes on 38th Street
The Longfellow Community Council is hosting a meeting to get input about proposed bike lanes on 38th Street in your neighborhood. We hope you can come! Longfellow currently has the largest gap between bikeways of anywhere in the entire city (no dedicated bikeway between the Midtown Greenway and Minnehaha Park). Bike lanes on 38th Street can change that. We understand that there has been some opposition because the bike lanes would require removing parking (which is not heavily used) from the one side of the street in most areas. Parking would be retained on the one side near the 42nd Avenue business node. Your voice at this meeting could be very valuable.

If you cannot attend the meeting, we encourage you to share your thoughts with Council Member Andrew Johnson. Council Member Johnson has been a supporter of more bike lanes, but it is always valuable for decision makers to hear from their community members.

University Ave and 4th Street update
We are continuing to make progress on the University Ave/4th St protected bikeway project! The stakeholder group met a few weeks ago to discuss the results of the survey and postcard data collected both online and at Open Street U of M. So far over 400 responses have been collected. Haven't given your input yet? The survey will close on Friday, December 2 so you still have time to take it!

Protected bike lanes on Glenwood Ave
Glenwood Avenue will be totally reconstructed (including sidewalks) between 10th Street (downtown) and Aldrich (International Market Square) in 2019. After a number of local voices stepped forward, the County is now proposing to include plastic bollards for the bike lanes as part of the design. While we had hoped for curb-protected bike lanes and are disappointed that will not be part of the design, we appreciate that the County will be taking this step to make the bike lanes better.

Seward Montessori Students Bike to City Hall for Safe Routes
On October 25, a class of 4th and 5th Graders from Seward Montessori School biked to City Hall. The class used the Seward Montessori bike fleet to make the four mile round-trip, which coincided with the beginning of the City’s Transportation and Public Works committee meeting. The City Council transportation committee will discuss bicycle boulevards in Seward on Tuesday. Staff have continued their opposition to a closure on 29th Avenue at the Greenway, but we understand that Council Member Gordon is preparing a direction to implement. Postcard Sorting
2016 is coming to a close and we have another opportunity for you to help us out! We collected postcards in support of protected bikeways all year, and need your help in sorting them by ward for delivery to elected officials! Stop by the Coalition office (1428 Washington Ave S, Suite 204) on Wednesday, November 30 from 5-7pm to lend a hand. Please bring a laptop if you can and we will provide the snacks!

Washington Avenue bikeway Open House
Washington Avenue will have protected bikeways from Hennepin to 5th Ave S next year. We are working to get them extended to the U of M. Join us and the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association at an open house about Washington Avenue bike lanes in the Mill District.
