August and September are exciting times for us at the Coalition! We are in the middle of Open Streets Minneapolis season and have a variety of events from rides to outreach events to spread the word about Open Streets Minneapolis and the work that we do to make Minneapolis a more bikeable city! Here are some exciting volunteer and advocacy opportunities that are coming your way!
Open Streets Franklin was this past weekend and we had a great time seeing Seward and Phillips come together to reimagine and transform Franklin! There was so much to see, do and eat - the possibilities were endless. Plus, the weather was pretty much perfect. Open Streets U of M featuring East Bank, Dinkytown & West Bank
Now, we are gearing up for Open Streets University of Minnesota (October 1st) which will connect the West Bank to Dinkytown with the U of M campus in the middle. In preparation for these events, we do a first round of outreach to invite businesses on the route and give them more information about how to participate. We want our events to represent the neighborhoods we are in and it is important to us to make sure that local businesses have all the information they need to participate at Open Streets. We love our local businesses!
Are you positive and outgoing? Do you love Open Streets events, community, active transit and Minneapolis? Help us make Open Streets University of Minnesota happen by joining us while we invite businesses on the Open Streets UMN route and spread that Open Streets joy. We will be going out onto the route this Friday, August 26th talking to businesses and drumming up the energy for Open Streets University of Minnesota! Open Streets West Broadway
We really are in the middle of our Open Streets season for the year and are excited for Open Streets West Broadway coming up September 10th! Celebrate West Broadway with Open Streets Minneapolis and the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition on and explore the route between Lyndale and Penn Ave N and experience West Broadway in a whole new way. Don't miss out on the fun and a free Open Streets T shirt - volunteer with us!
We will have our Pop up protected bikeway demonstration here. Swing by, ride, walk or roll through and come experience a pop up protected bikeway up close with all your senses. Help us showcase our pop up at West Broadway and engage with event goers around our advocacy efforts for protected bikeways, by volunteering with us at the pop up!
Open Streets Nicollet
A short week after, bear witness to Nicollet Ave's stunning transformation at Open Streets Nicollet on Sunday, September 18th. We are excited to reimagine Nicollet Ave and showcase the dynamic and unique Lyndale, Whittier, and Kingfield neighborhoods. Join us as we celebrate these neighborhoods and the community! Spread that Open Streets joy and help us make this event by volunteering with us! Snag that Open Streets T shirt while you can!

None of our events would be possible without the work of our amazing volunteers! We want to take the opportunity to get gushy and commemorate our volunteer of the month, Sally Novotny! Sally says, "As a volunteer at Open Streets with the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, I enjoy spreading the good word about protected bikeways in our city. I am part of a growing group of older cyclists who increasingly make use of our city’s great bicycling opportunities for exercise, recreation, and just plain getting around. I love seeing people of all ages bicycling safely and happily in Minneapolis."
