Now hiring: Bicycle Encouragement Program Coordinator

The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition seeks a part-time Bicycle Encouragement Program Coordinator to lead efforts to partner with local organizations to support people biking more. The work will be primarily focused on serving women of color in Minneapolis. Come join our great team!

The position is for an average of about 20 hours per week (negotiable). The Bicycle Encouragement Program Coordinator will work under the supervision of Laura Kling, the Community Engagement Director, and work closely with other members of the Coalition team.

Responsibilities of the Bicycle Encouragement Program Coordinator include:

  • lead outreach and community engagement for bicycle encouragement program with an extra focus on serving women of color;

  • develop and maintain partnerships with several community based organizations;

  • support the development of materials and activities to promote biking;

  • lead group rides and other events to inspire people to bicycle;

  • help report on and evaluate the program;

  • help create and support the vision for the bicycle encouragement program into the future;

  • support other Coalition activities as directed;

  • provide a consistently positive passion for bicycling and the events work; and

  • perform administrative, clerical, and other duties as directed.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least one year experience in community outreach, community events, bicycle promotion, organizing, or related;

  • Ability to network, build trust, and build working relationships with diverse groups;

  • Great people skills, positive energy, and an ability to have fun with work;

  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow through with tasks while managing multiple projects;

  • Proficient computer skills including word processing; and

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends;

 Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Minneapolis and connections to organizations and communities in Minneapolis;

  • Bicycle encouragement skills, including basic bicycle repair, experience leading group rides, or experience teaching bicycle riding skills;

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;

  • Proficiency in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong; and

  • A strong desire to help inspire people to bicycle more in Minneapolis.

 

Work conditions

Work hours will include meetings and events outside of the office, primarily at locations in Minneapolis, and will include evenings and weekends. Position involves lifting equipment up to 35 pounds and requires the ability to operate a bicycle.

 

Salary and Benefits

The wage range is $16 - $21 per hour, depending on experience and skills.
