LRT Renewal- Earth Day Trail Clean-Up!

Earth Day 2016

Earth Day was first conceived as a day for environmental policy change and lobbying.  The first Earth Day took place in 1970, making this April 22nd the 46th year where people have raised awareness about our environment through peaceful demonstrations and actions.

There are many ways you can get involved during Earth Day!

LRT Renewal- Trail Clean-Up: Monday, April 18th

Join the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition in cleaning up the plastic bags, bottles, and rubbish from the trail!  More hands will make the work go faster- bring a friend!

Meet at Brian Coyle Community Center (420 15th Ave S)- by the Light Rail Trail (LRT) and Cedar-Riverside Community.  Lock your bikes near the Cedar Riverside Light Rail station, either on the LRT or on 15th Ave S.

Roll Out- We will walk south on the Hiawatha LRT, picking up trash as we go!

We will provide:

  • Plastic gloves
  • Trash bags
  • Garbage grabbers
  • A bike trailer to collect the trash and take it to Freewheel West Bank (they have kindly allowed us to use their dumpster)

Please bring these if you have them:

  • Your own tools if possible (Rakes, push brooms)
  • Gardening or utility gloves

Note: This will be in place of the Monthly Get Together. If it is raining, the event will be cancelled.

Parks Clean Up: Saturday, April 23rd

Cleanup was initiated in 1995 to draw attention to the water quality improvement needs of Minneapolis' lakes and the effects that individual actions have on urban water quality. Since the inception of the Earth Day cleanup we have removed more than 140,000 pounds of garbage from Minneapolis parks.
